Texas State Nutrition Council

Texas State Nutrition Council

The Texas State Nutrition Council scholarship was endowed in 2018. Three fourths of the funds for this scholarship came from remaining funds from the Texas State Nutrition Council which ceased to exist as a functioning group in 2015. Janelle Walter was the last existing officer for the group and with approval of the last remaining members gave the checking account balance to the Texas Foundation. Additional funds were contributed over the next 2 years for it to be endowed. The Texas State Nutrition Council was made up of Nutrition specialists. This group gave advice to the state of Texas on how how to carry out war time food restrictions and maintain nutrition quality. This group existed before there were RDs and before there was a Texas Dietetic Association. The focus of this group was providing the public with useful information about nutrition and giving science based nutrition counseling to individuals.

Scholarship Criteria

The current scholarship seeks to recognize a student interested in nutrition education. The founders of the scholarship leave it to the Foundation board to give this scholarship to the most qualified applicant.
